The list editor is where you can add new members or remove members from a list, change their subscribe and verify status or download all members of a list to a spreadsheet.
Fields
The list editor displays one member per row. It will always have the following fields.
Unsubscribed - If checked, the user has been unsubscribed.
Verified - If checked, the user is verified; used for double opt-in feature.
Duplicate - If checked, there was an attempt to add the user more than once.
Source - How this member was added to the list. Common options are List Editor, Upload, Form and API.
EMAIL - is the email address of the member.
FIRSTNAME - is the First Name of the member.
LASTNAME is the Last Name of the member.
All others are custom fields.
Limit Visible Records
The visible records can be limited by Unsubscribed, Verified, Not Verified and Duplicates. When downloading the list to a spreadsheet, only the currently visible records are downloaded. As a result you can select only members that have unsubscribed and download them so you can remove them from other marketing material. There are four toolbar buttons that control the visibility of record. Clicking them toggle from on and off. If there is a red border around the button, the records of the corresponding type are visible.
Unsubscribed is controlled by the toolbar button.
Verified is controlled by the toolbar button.
Not Verified is controlled by the toolbar button.
Duplicates are controlled by the toolbar button.
Change Subscription Status
Note: There is a major difference between a member being Unsubscribed and deleting a member from the list. In almost every case, you DO NOT want to delete a member from the list. If they are marked as Unsubscribed, they will never be sent a message that used this list again even if there was an attempt to re-add them. This is compliance with the CAN SPAM Act
You can change the subscribed status of a member by clicking on the unsubscribed checkbox of their row. This is useful for at least two reasons.
If a member accidentally unsubscribed, you can uncheck this box so they continue getting messages sent to this list.
Note: To support the CAN SPAM Act, onec a member is unsubscribed, they will never be able to re-subscribe using any other method like forms, spreadsheets, List Editor or API. The only way around this is to uncheck the box here or remove the member completely and have them re-subscribe.
Sometimes members will refuse to use the unsubscribe link in a message and instead send you a nasty email demanding to be removed from the list. With only and email address and no tracking hash, this would be the only way to unsubscribe them.
Change Verified Status
Email is only sent to members that have been verified. Most methods of adding a member to the list will be automatically marked as Verified. If you add a new member in the List Editor, you will need to manually check this. If the member was added as a result of the Form Application, there is a double opt in option. If that is selected, the visitor will not be automatically Verified. Instead, they will receive and email message with a link they have to follow to complete the verification process. This is known as Double Opt In and in many cases required by the CAN SPAM Act. Double Opt In prevents malicious subscription by people who want to jam up someones mailbox.
You can change the verified status of a member by clicking on the verified checkbox of their row.
Change Duplicate Status
The duplicate checkbox indicates that at some point, there was an attempt to add a member more than once.
You can change the duplicate status of a member by clicking on the duplicate checkbox of their row.
This is useful for one reason.
If you want to test to make sure a user is not being added multiple times after fixing a workflow issue.
Editing a Member
You can change any of the fields for a member except the Source Field.
