Site Properties

Site properties are various settings that effect your entire web site.

HTML Version

Note: This option is provided for the benefit of legacy sites. Any site developed in the last few years should have this checked. This feature is the default for any new web site as of the release of iEditWeb 7 or Eight. Generally speaking, do not change this setting unless you have been instructed.

  • Check this box to make your site compliant with HTML 5 and CSS 3 standards (the default).

  • If this is not checked, your site will use XHTML 4.0 transitional coding and CSS 2. This will greatly limit the functionality of your site.

URL Handling

URL handling controls what happens when someone accesses your site with a URL (Universal Resource Locator). This is the address a visitor types into the location field of a web browser or uses in a hyperlink. For instance http://www.ieditweb.com/about would is the URL that takes you the the iEditWeb about page.
  • Enable URL spell checking - when checked will attempt to correct any spelling errors a user might make when entering a URL. The domain part of the URL must still be correct. For instance, if someone enters the URL http://www.ieditweb.com/abot, this feature would correct it and take them to http://www.ieditweb.com/about.

  • Enable case insensitive URLs - will accept the URL the visitor enters regardless of case. Normally all URLs are case sensitive. When this is checked the URL http://www.ieditweb.com/About, http://www.ieditweb.com/ABOUT and http://www.ieditweb.com/about all point to the same page.

Be careful when naming your pages with this feature so you don't have multiple page name that only vary by case.

  • Force secure socket layer - will always force visitors to the SSL or secure version of your site. In other words if the user enters http://www.ieditweb.com, they will be redirected to https://www.ieditweb.com. This may be required to pass some PCI/DSS (for credit card processors) tests.

To use this feature you must have have your hosting configured for SSL and purchase a security certificate. Contact iEditWeb sales for help getting this done.

  • Use static URL - when this is checked, static content like images, style-sheets and files are served from a different URL than the main site. If your site is properly configured for this you pages will be served from http://www.domain.com and your static content will be served from http://static.domain.com. This improves your load time for mobile devices and search engine ranking for people searching from a mobile device.

To use this feature your site must be configured in a specific way. This is usually the default for new sites but may need to be changed for legacy sites. If iEditWeb does not host your domain it is also possible this is not configured properly. Contact iEditWeb support for more information.

Still it's possible that a company that wants an abbreviated version of their site for mobile visitors. For instance an auto repair shop may just want the address, directions, phone number and towing contact on their mobile site.

  • Enable mobile redirect - check this to enable the mobile redirect feature.

  • Mobile URL - this is the full qualified URL of the mobile site. For instance http://m.domain.com
