Formatting Tools

Formatting tools are used to change the appearence of the text of your web site.

WYSIWYG Toolbar


  It's strongly recommended that you avoid using the Font, Font Size, Bold, Italic, Underline and strike through buttons to change the look of text in your site. Instead, create styles using the Style Editor and then select the style from the style selector. This will make your site load more efficiently and aid in keeping the look and feel of your site constant. This technique will also aid in making your site responsive (so it works on mobile devices).
  • The drop-down that displays "Normal" in the image to the right represent the style of the text under the cursor of the editor. If you select a block of text and choose a different style from this drop-down, the style of the selected text will change. You can modify these styles with the Style Editor .

  • The drop-down that displays "mr-eaves-modern" in the images to the right represents font used by the text under the cursor. If you select a block of text and chose a different font from this drop-down, the font used by the selected text will change.

  • The number displayed as the third item in the top toolbar is the font size in point under the cursor. If you select a block of text an enter a different value the font size of the selected text will change.

      In reality, points only make sense for printed material. It is used here as a point of reference since most people are used to this unit. It assumes a screen resolution of 72 dots per inch.


  •  Bold will display the boldness of the currently selected text. A red border will indicate it's bold. If you select a block of text and click on this button the boldness of the selected text will be toggled.

  •  Italic will display the italic state of the currently selected text. A red border will indicate it's italic. If you select a block of text and click on this button the italic state of the selected text will be toggled.

  •  Underline will display the underline status of the currently selected text. A red border will indicate it's underlined. If you select a block of text and click on this button the underline state of the selected text will be toggled.

  •   Strike-through will display the strike-through status of the currently selected text. A red border will indicate it has strike-through. If you select a block of text and click on this button the strike-through state of the selected text will be toggled.

  •   Superscript will display the superscript status of the currently selected text. A red border will indicate is it superscript. If you select a block of text and click on this button the superscript state of the selected text will be toggled.

  •   Subscript will display the subscript status of the currently selected text. A red border will indicate it's subscript. If you select a block of text and click on this button the subscript state of the selected text will be toggled.

  •   Font Color will be the color of the currently selected text. If you select a block of text and click on this button a color picker will appear that you can use to change the color of the selected text.

  •  Format Painter will allow you to pick an existing style from your site and apply it to a block on text.

  1. Place your cursor over the text with the style you want to paint.

  2. Click on the Format Painter    icon.

  3. Drag your mouse over the text you want to format.
 
Text Alignment

Text alignment features allow you to control the layout of the paragraphs of your web page.

  • Left Alignment will align the text of the current paragraph to the left.

  •  Center Alignment will align the text of the current paragraph to the center.

  • Right alignment will align the text of the current paragraph to the right.

  •   Justify alignment will align the text of the current paragraph so the left and right edges are straight similar to a newspaper.

  • Ordered list will create a list of items that are numbered or lettered similar to an outline.

  • Unordered list will create a list of bulleted items.

  •   Indent will indent the current paragraph. When used with an Ordered List or an Unordered list will create multi-level lists similar to an outline.

  •  Outdent will reverse the operation done with the Indent operation above.
